Just like their last home game, there are twelve seniors with their Lancer careers on the line against the Chaffey Tigers
The Lancers finished on top of the Marmonte League for the first time this decade, and they aren’t finished yet. Despite getting off to a slow start at 1-4-1, partly due to a three-back formation, the Lancers were able to rebound and get back on track.
“Trial and error for the first few games and we started finding our identity and what we were playing for,” senior captain Diego Estrada told the Lancer.
The Lancers were able to kick off league play with a hot start at 6-1-1, meaning the last home game, Senior Night against two-time reigning league champion Agoura, would determine who would be the Marmonte League champion this season.
An early goal from Mikey Houghtaling would be enough for the Lancers as they would persevere through the same thing they struggled with early on in the season — defense — as senior goalkeeper Andy Johnson made numerous diving saves that would be enough to fend off the Chargers, 1-0.
“We’re genuinely a team and that is why I think we are performing so well, we are not heavily reliant on a single player,” Estrada said. “We are playing for each other and playing for the badge.”
The next challenge this Lancer team will face is the Chaffey Tigers in the first round of playoffs, at home Wednesday night thanks to the league title.
No playoff game is easy, but there are 12 seniors with their Lancer careers on the line, and this team has been showing no quit.
