The Lancer varsity cross country team won the Division 2 Varsity Mt. SAC Race 54-65, led by senior Bjorn Slattum. Slattum ran with a time of 15:34 taking first place in the 3-mile race.
Slattum feels that this meet was very special, and addresses that the meet was a win for the team as a whole, not just a win for him individually.
“I’m definitely excited, my team, we won. It’s just been an exciting, overwhelming day,” said Slattum.
This year is Slattum’s last in high school, so it was his final chance to have a good race after a few years of mediocre races at Mt. SAC. He did not disappoint, running his best time yet and bringing home the cowbell.
“The past few years I haven’t had the greatest runs at Mt. SAC, so it was a reliever to finally have a good one here. It’s my last year here in high school, so it is very, very special for me to finally hold this cowbell,” Slattum said.
Bjorn and the rest of the varsity team have clinched a spot at CIF Prelims after placing in the top 13 in the southern section during two weeks of their season. Thousand Oaks will compete in Marmonte League Championships tomorrow, November 3rd in hopes of earning a league title.
