Thousand Oaks falls in Marmonte League Opener 56- 64
Calabasas– On Friday, the Lancers began Marmonte League play against the Calabasas Coyotes.
Thousand Oaks had a slow start to begin the game as they fell into a 4-10 hole.
The Lancers were able to gain momentum during the second quarter by taking advantage of transition opportunities to take a 28-25 lead to end the half. Their defensive play and missed shots by Calabasas allowed Thousand Oaks to score easy baskets on the other end.
Calabasas was able to shake off their inconsistent first half to take a 41-39 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Calabasas went on an 8-0 run to put the Lancers in double digit deficit.
“A series of back to back to back turnovers is what really got us” Senior Amman Asfaw who finished with 12 points said.
With about three minutes remaining, the Lancers began to intentionally foul to try and comeback. Poor free throw shooting by Calabasas allowed Thousand Oaks to close the gap to six points twice, but Calabasas was able to hold on and win.
